Cervical
Smears
Return to Health Promotion
Cervical smears are undertaken to try
to detect abnormal changes in the neck of the womb.
If these changes exist and are left untreated they can progress to
cervical cancer.
At Bideford Medical Centre all nurses and doctors are trained and practised in
performing cervical smears. All
women aged between 25 and 64 should been invited to attend the surgery for a
smear according to the following timetable:

The NHS operates a recall system, keeping track of
all women registered with a GP to ensure that they are invited for a smear when
it is due. It is very important
that BMC has your correct address and contact details for this system to work.
If you would like to book an appointment for a smear please telephone the
appointments desk. For further
